12.30pm – Race 2 – Whateley

This bloke has been super consistent and is absolutely knocking on the door. Surely one of these days someone eventually answers it.

The inside gate helps, the gap between runs suits, and while he would have preferred a little more give in the track, I think he gets a terrific opportunity here.

At $18, I think the market has got him wrong. He looks an excellent each-way play at that price.

The two hardest to beat for mine are Xtreme and Condone, and interestingly they're both at decent prices as well. You could potentially back all three and still make a nice profit if one salutes.

Whateley doesn't win very often, but he's racing too consistently for his luck not to change eventually.

He's a bit like the bloke who's been engaged for eight years — surely eventually he's going to get the job done.

2.15pm – Race 5 – Silvanito

Most of the owners are still counting their winnings from last start, when he was heavily supported at double-figure odds and got the chocolates.

Unfortunately, he's turned up today and found another mountain to climb.

This is harder again, there are chances everywhere, and from a pure betting perspective my confidence has disappeared quicker than a politician's promise after election day.

Having said that, $20/1 is the wrong price again, so he's worth a small interest at those odds.

And regardless of what happens today, I'd still much rather own Silvanito than be one of the four people who apparently paid $45,000-plus for a share in the favourite during the week.

That values the horse at around $1.2 million.

Now I'm no mathematician, but at that valuation I'd want the horse to win, mow the lawn and pick the kids up from school.

Absolute madness!

Silvanito can certainly win again, but unlike last start, I'm keeping the champagne in the fridge until further notice.

7.00pm – Race 9 – TOOWOOMBA CUP – Chillaxing

Here's another example of why you don't necessarily need to spend telephone numbers to find a good horse.

A very cheap overseas purchase, Chillaxing has now put together an excellent record of 5 wins and 5 placings from 18 starts. He's genuine, consistent and continues to do a terrific job for his owners.

His absolute best is with some give in the ground, and I'm not convinced we're going to get enough of that tonight.

But there's a significant positive: up in grade and down in weight.

That gives him a genuine opportunity in the Toowoomba Cup.

I've got eight legitimate winning chances, so personally I think the $5 is a little skinny. At that price you'd want fewer dance partners.

A good friend of mine might say, there are enough chances in this race to make a bookmaker sleep like a baby.

He's genuine, he's racing well and he deserves his chance.
