Australian Bloodstock Secures Promising German Import for 2025 Melbourne Cup Tilt
[Newcastle, NSW – August 6, 2025] – Australian Bloodstock is proud to announce the acquisition of an exciting new Melbourne Cup contender – the highly promising German-bred four-year-old, AUGUSTUS.
Sourced from Germany in conjunction with globally respected bloodstock agent and long-time collaborator Ronald Rauscher, Augustus brings with him a standout record of class and consistency. Lightly raced with just 11 starts, the imposing son of top European stock has already chalked up three wins and has never finished worse than fifth, all in Group company – a rare feat that underscores his genuine quality.
“Augustus fits the profile of many of our Group 1 champions from years past,” said Australian Bloodstock Director Jamie Lovett. “He’s sound, possesses tactical speed, has handled varying track conditions, and his data suggests he’ll relish the 3200 metres of the Melbourne Cup. He’s the type of horse who puts himself into the race and gives you confidence he’ll be there when it counts.”
Lovett added: “We’ve watched the Melbourne Cup evolve in recent years, and Augustus has the attributes to be a serious player under today’s conditions. Importantly, he’s a horse we believe will be racing at the elite level for seasons to come.”
A last-start winner of the prestigious Group 2 Hansa Preis – a race famously won by Protectionist, who claimed Melbourne Cup glory for Australian Bloodstock – Augustus has already proven his ability on the international stage. His Hansa triumph was both visually impressive and tactically sharp, further reinforcing his credentials for the Spring Carnival.

With proven Group form, untapped upside, and the guidance of one of Australia’s leading trainers, Augustus is shaping as one of the most exciting international imports to target this year’s Cups.

Stay tuned as he embarks on his journey to Flemington this spring.
